IRO Timber Decking Boards

IRO Architectural Timber Decking is an exclusive range of decking that combines the ancient Japanese method “Yakisugi” which sees the timber being charred with the latest and best timber technology.  IRO’s water repellent, self-cleaning surface ensures that any dust or dirt is simply washed away.  Depending on how the decking is used and which colourway is chosen, IRO Timber Decking can add a modern or traditional appeal thanks to the charring method.  Coated with a coloured wood cream, any liquids will pearl off the decking creating beautiful visuals as well as helping to maintain and extend the life of the decking.

Below we outline the which our IRO Deck Boards have undergone to create their unique look:

1. – lowers the moisture content down to 18-22% to provide initial stability and structure to the wood
2. – moulder machines are used to create a spotless surface finish, whilst stress relief grooves are profiled on the underside to minimise the risk of cracks or fractures in the timber
3. – fire treatment enhances the natural woodgrain of the timber, creating colour contrast between the early and late wood as well as protecting against rot and weathering
4. – wire brushes are used to scrape away surface fibres to expose the natural dark grains beneath, which provides the wood with an identity and adds a unique surface finish
5. – infused with preservatives, this pressure treatment protects the wood from rot and enhances its properties to prepare the wood for its intended deployments
6. – secondary kilning removes any residue of surface moisture and creates an optimum bond for the IRO cream
7. – this final process gives the wood its exclusive and striking colours to shine through, as well as providing enhanced UV-stability and water repellent properties which sweeps water off the surface
